billboard BREAKDOWN - hot 100 - june 27, 2015 (VIDEO)

You know, for a week that was pretty lightweight all things considered, this review was absolute hell to make. Between so many reshoots and that damned video glitch... ugh, I'm just happy it's over.

Next up, I think I'm about ready to talk about FFS or Kamelot before Kacey Musgraves comes through - stay tuned!

  1. Mark, have you ever heard of iHeart Media's (the name that the Clear Channel radio conglomerate works under) "On The Verge" program? I don't think they still call it that, but it's the main reason that songs like Chris Janson's "Buy Me A Boat", Dustin Lynch's "Hell Of A Night", and Sam Hunt's "House Party" are doing so well, as well as the reason that songs from Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith, and (yes) even KONGOS managed to chart at all, at least in the beginning. If you don't know what I'm talking about, essentially, Clear Channel finds a newbie artist and goes out of their way to put that artist's song in heavy rotation. The public response can be iffy (have we heard from Chase Bryant or Craig Campbell lately?), but it can give artists that radio boost to get them into the zeitgeist. The genre that this has been effected the most by this program is country, where radio is such a huge part of success, and thus that's why some of these C-list country acts with subpar material can quickly move up the Hot 100.
